Statically Typed React: Creating React Apps with Flow and Reason

Join us on Monday, June 11th at 6:30 pm at The Forge in Downtown Des Moines across from the sculpture garden to learn about Flow, a static type checker and the benefits of using static typing in your React project. Food and drinks will be provided by Pillar Technology.

Talk Description:

As more robust web applications continue to be built, developers have attempted to add static typing to their Javascript projects to ensure their application has minimal runtime errors as well as other benefits that static typing can give. Many people (particularly within the Angular community) are familiar with Typescript, Microsoft’s superset to Javascript that adds static typing, interfaces, and other features. Facebook, on the other hand, has developed their own tools that add static typing to React and other Javascript projects: the static type checker Flow and ReasonML, an incredibly fast functional programming language that can compile down to Javascript. In this talk, we will explore how to add Flow and Reason to a React project, and the benefits they can bring to quickly develop stable, type-safe Javascript applications.
